Congratulations! God has chosen YOU to be parents of His new creation.

You have asked to have your child baptized. In doing so you are accepting the responsibility of training your child in the practice of the faith. It will be your duty to raise your child to keep God’s commandments as Christ taught us, by loving God and our neighbor.

Do you clearly understand what you are undertaking?”

With these words, the Church begins the celebration of your child’s baptism. By the celebration of this sacrament, your child becomes not only a child of God, but begins an initiation into the Catholic Church, the Body of Christ, a community of Faith. These words also indicate that your child’s baptism is as much about your own adult faith as it is about the child’s new life in Christ.

According to the mind of the Church, parents are obliged to see that infants are baptized within the first weeks after birth. As soon as possible after the birth, or even before it, parents should request the sacrament for their child and arrange to be properly instructed in preparation for it. In order that you may be better prepared to celebrate this important moment in your child’s life and to fully celebrate your own faith, the Cathedral parish asks you to attend an instructional session. Godparents are encouraged to attend the session when possible.

Please note that, due to the number of requests for baptisms, the Cathedral Parish adopted a policy years ago that generally requires parents to be registered parishioners of the parish before their infant may be baptized here.

To schedule a baptism or register for baptismal preparation classes, please contact the parish rectory at 314-373-8202.

To obtain a copy of your certificate of Baptism, Marriage, First Holy Communion and/or Confirmation, please contact the parish rectory at 314-373-8202, or you may submit a written request mailed to:
