Red Mass

The Red Mass will be celebrated here at the Cathedral Basilica Sunday, October 7, at 10:00 am followed by a reception at Boland Hall.  The Most Reverend Shawn McKnight, Bishop of Jefferson City, will serve as homilist.  The Red Mass is celebrated annually for judges, prosecutors, public defenders, attorneys, law school professors and students, and government officials.  Through the Mass, the Church asks the guidance of the Holy Spirit for all who are servants of justice.  Begun in France in the 1300s by King Louis IX, our Archdiocesan patron saint, the Red Mass enjoys a long tradition in our country.  Members of the legal or government community who would like more information about the Red Mass may contact Jennifer Stanard, Archdiocesan Vice Chancellor for Special Events, at 314-792-7812.
